Some of the positive effects of learning relaxation techniques for stress

  • Slows your heart rate
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Reduction in muscle tension
  • Slows breathing rate
  • Reduces frustration
  • Lowers chronic pain
  • Improves concentration and focus
  • Boosts confidence to handle problems.

When using hypnotherapy for stress there are different methods that can be used. Some common methods used are:

Guided imagery – In this dreamlike state of hypnosis, you will use mental images to help you visualise yourself calm and peaceful in the situations that trigger stressful feelings  you may have struggled in.

Progressive muscle relaxation – This involves tensing and the relaxing different muscles in your body to help you relax and release tension.

Self hypnosis – Another technique to help you reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

Deep breathing exercises, mindfulness and meditation can all help. It is helpful to identify what triggers stress responses in your body and mind, clearly noting any physical and emotional symptoms that come up during stress. These include: mental images that might come up, looping thoughts and physical sensations. It is also important to have an idea of what you want to achieve from your sessions with me, for example being able to relax more or feel less stressed in certain situations.

Mind what you eat and drink

It is important to note that hypnotherapy is not a magic solution. It should be used in combination with other stress management techniques. Exercise, going for a walk, riding a bike & just getting out in nature can also be very beneficial. Good nutrition is also key; it’s important to have healthy eating habits and to watch how much alcohol you consume. When stressed it is very easy to have a couple of glasses of wine a night, but that can turn into a few bottles a week. Additionally, if you’re not getting a good night’s sleep this can leave you feeling tired, and grumpy which can add to your stress. It is recommended that you work with a licensed hypnotherapist who has had the proper training and education to give you the best possible outcome.

What happens in a hypnotherapy for stress session?

During a hypnotherapy session I will guide you into a deeply relaxed state of focused awareness; this is known as hypnosis. Through mindfulness, focused awareness and soothing suggestions, I will help you reduce tension and stress. Once physically relaxed, mental relaxation comes more easily. Through this process, the symptoms of stress are greatly reduced allowing therapeutic work to begin. In this state your subconscious mind is more open to suggestions. I will give you more positive suggestions to help you manage stress and reduce anxiety. By giving you these more positive suggestions, it can help you change your thoughts, beliefs and behaviours that are causing you to feel stressed.

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses the power of hypnosis. By using hypnotherapy for stress, I can help you overcome various health problems, physical and mental, including stress. I have found that it is a highly effective way to manage this condition and improve overall well-being.
